• Disappear here 2009

    Disappear here 2009

A singer, alone in front of a crowd. He is used to the spotlight, but what happens when the lights go off and he is alone? There is no darkness if you are the light.

Jesus’ inspiration comes from Ian Curtis, singer of Joy Division and from Less than Zero, a novel by Brett Easton Ellis.

The solo was produced by Station Zuid and premiered at the Parktheatre in Eindhoven.

Created and performed by Jesus de Vega.

    Dramaturgical help: Dirk Dumont.

Sound design and light design: Jesus de Vega.

    Rainbowbody 2009

A site specific project created in collaboration with Jussi Nousiainen, this duet was performed at the Designhuis in Eindhoven (Netherlands) and curated and commissioned by Station Zuid (Tilburg).

Several choreographers use the different rooms of the museum as inspiration and performance space.

In the case of RainbowBody the inspiration comes from the room called Soul/Body.

Created and performed by Jesus de Vega and Jussi Nousiainen.

  • Shut quietly, almost 2010

    Shut quietly, almost 2010

Created in collaboration with Jussi Nousiainen (choreographer) and Bart van Geldrop (video artist), this piece was part of the program Jong Zuid and produced by Station Zuid,

This duet reflects the tension between the impulsive, physically theatrical world of Jesús and the more elusive, imaginary world of Jussi. The video images, light design, movement and original music by Jürgen de Blonde entice the audience into this unique universe.

    Choreography: Jesus de Vega/Jussi Nousiainen

Performed by Jussi Nousiainen and Joeri Dubbe.

    Music: Jürgen de Blonde.

    Video: Bart van Geldrop

  • Lust 2011

    Lust 2011

Produced by Station Zuid (Tilburg) and part of the program Lust, Rattlepit is one of the 4 pieces that were created using The garden of earthly delights from Hieronymus Bosch as inspiration.

In Rattlepit, de Vega correlates the 3 parts of the tryptic (Paradise, earth and Hell) with the process of aging (Paradise as the beginning of life, naivety, Earth as the years of sexual awakening/self realisation and Hell as a symbol for old age, correlating physical pain with the hellish tortures depicted in the artwork )

    Choreography: Jesus de Vega

Performed by Helena Volkov, Eline Tan and Sara Wiktorowikz.

    Music by Richard van Kruisdijk.

    Dramaturgical input: Guy Cools.

  • Matter 2012

    Matter 2012

In this site-specific work, de Vega collaborates with Bart van Geldrop (video artist) to create a surreal world inspired by (and dedicated to) his deceased uncle, who suffered from schizophrenia.

The combination between video (projected onto the smoke that fills the room) an industrial soundscape and a disjointed physicality creates a claustrophobic atmosphere, broken at moments by silence and full light to question the notions of real vs. imaginary.

Concept and movement score by Jesus de Vega

Performed and co-scored by Gloria Ros Abellana.

    Video: Bart van Geldrop

Thanks to Florain Verheijen and Station Zuid for their help.

  • Aether 2012

    Aether 2012

Aether talks about love from the perspective of sound: are we lonely sounds in search of other sounds to form a melody? Or are we a melody on our own?

In a cacophonous world, two lonely beings try their best to harmonise. Will they be able to, or will their own sound get lost in the Aether?

Choreography, sound design and Lighting: Jesus de Vega

Performed by Helena Volkov and Jussi Nousiainen.

    With support from ICK Amsterdam.

  • Feedback 2013

    Feedback 2013

Created for the final showing of the European program Spazio, of which de Vega was a participant.

The starting point was Hikikomori and Yuugen. Feedback focuses on the notions of connection and isolation.

For this work de Vega developed a system (inspired by cybernetics) in which the performer needs internal feedback to arrive to the connection of the isolated elements (dance, light, sound, smoke)

Once all of the elements are inter-connected, new meaning will arise from the full picture.

    Created by Jesus de Vega

    Performed by Helena Volkov

  • MasturNation 2014

    MasturNation 2014

In this multidisciplinay work, video, sound and lights (and a dose of dark humour) create a claustrophobic environment for the performers. De Vega mixes twerking, stripper joints, can-can, Barbie and pop culture to talk about the hyper-sexualisation of the female figure in media. MasturNation pushes the physicality of the dancers to their own extreme.

Choreography, video/sound collage and lighting concept: Jesus de Vega.

    Lighting advice: Marcus Schnizer.

Created for and produced by the Docent department of the AHK

Through a set of restrictions (physical, spatial, rhythmical...) the performers expose their quest to find their freedom.

    Birds of Paradise 2020

During the 24H Global Art Carousel by interdisciplinary ensemble NITE, Project Wildeman presents a preview of their upcoming Augmented Reality show called Birds of Paradise.

Birds of Paradise is a ritual mating dance from 3002, a time where human existence has become endangered, a time where mating rituals have become elaborate and flamboyant, a time where the hybrid world of virtual and real has become second nature and integrated in the way we find our mate. In this performance we combine Electronic Music, Augmented Reality and Dance.

  • Mujō, Vibes #4 2021

    Mujō, Vibes #4 2021

Vibes is a sonic interactive dance game in which participants are the main characters. Through an app on your mobile phone you get instructions through headphones to move together. Choreographer Jesus de Vega and composer Michele Samba developed Vibes #4 - Mujõ. Walk through this labyrinth full of sonic obstacles, where you will move to advance in the game.

Vibes is a sensory adventure for everyone; where sound inspires movement and movement becomes music! Led by music and the voice of Mujõ, you will embark on an adventure through a labyrinth filled with sonic obstacles. To progress through the maze, you will have to move and use your body! Using headphones and a smartphone-app, you will both dance alone and together with other participants. This game-like adventure is designed to be accessible for everyone, regardless of their age or dance experience. It is a journey in which sound, the joy of movement, and intuitive creativity come together: this individual expedition becomes a collective celebration!

  • Sonic Session: Euphonic 2021

    Sonic Session: Euphonic 2021

The Sonic Sessions departs from the idea of understanding movement like sound: vibration and frequencies. It is a live performance series, where movement is arranged as part of the soundscape, which is performed live.

Movement and sound intertwine in a series of Sonicscores, which helps the performers to map the internal structure. The Sonic Sessions plays with the freedom and dynamics of live music sessions and the (hidden) precision of a choreographed piece.

The creative process for the Sonic Sessions is intuitive, in dialogue with the performers and with BeingSonic (my practice for movement creation ) as the basis for it.

This piece was made for the Fontys 3rd year CU students, part of a shared  program with choreographers Antonin Rioche, Andreas hannes and Patricia Deutekom.

    Concept & Choreography:Jesus de Vega
    Music/Sound design:Jesus de Vega
Light design: Bo van Vliet in collaboration with Jesus de Vega
