About BeingSonic:
I developed BeingSonic out of the need of finding a way for sound and body to creatively dialogue through a communal language.
It is my own practice/method for physical creativity of which I impart workshops. It feeds the core of my artistic creative process. My inspiration to develop BeingSonic comes from a personal interest in the process of how synthesizers create and transform sounds, electronic music production and audio engineering techniques.
With the BeingSonic workshops, I aim to instil a playful sense of listening and concentration, to develop intuitive creativity and to provoke reflection in the participants about the possible relationships between the body and sound.
A body that is both the instrument and the musician.
The workshop places the participants in a “liminal” space, where movement is treated as a sonic entity. I use the DAW Ableton Live to propose sounds and tracks that have been conceived to inspire the participants´ physical responses: they can become the melodic lines, beats, sonic textures...depending on their inner qualities and intention.
Some of those outputs will be scored and performed with a Theremini Moog (or other electronic devices that generate sound). The sonic feedback of the instrument will provoke a creative dialogue with the body, affecting the performer’s score in a creative, intuitive and playful way.
Since 2021 I have been imparting workshops of BeingSonic yearly to students of the Fontys Hogeschool voor de Kunst in Tilburb (NL). I have also created a piece, Sonic Sessions: Euphonic, for the Fontys students using BeingSonic to develop the physical and sonic scores of the performance.
